A half-human, half-amphibian boy, appears in Trafalgar Square, before escaping into the Thames. Beggars and foreign tourists are being taken away in unmarked police vans, never to be seen again. Johnny's sister, Clara, is struggling to control her ability to 'fold' space. So begins the third Johnny Mackintosh story. The Krun Queen and her insect-like army are preparing to invade Earth so the Queen can feast on humans to her heart's content. With Clara desperately ill after folding once too often, Johnny needs all the help he can get. He travels across the globe, and out of it, in a quest to save his sister. The amphibian, Peter reappears to help Johnny. Together with Johnny's friends from the school football team and the staff of his children's home, Haladar House, they embark on a tumultuous space battle to save Clara and the rest of the world.
