Before reading: Look at the cover of the book. What kind of story do you think it is? In which period of time is it set? There are four events shown on the cover of the book. Describe them, then in pairs, try to guess what happens in the story. Read the blurb on the back cover. Who do you think Jake is? How do you think the two men got burned? Your teacher will give you the chapter titles in mixed order. In groups of three, try to re-arrange the titles and predict what happens in each chapter.
