The interwoven stories of a group of friends and junkies, it is a dazzling, dislocated trip through the highs and lows of their lives, from wild nights out to terrible nights in. The film adaptation of "Trainspotting" was released in 1996. It was directed by Oscar winner Danny Boyle and starred Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle and Ewan Bremner. In 2009 the Observer's panel of critics and film-makers voted it the best British film of the last 25 years.
