High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Parringtonia is an extinct genus of Triassic crurotarsan, possibly within the family Erpetosuchidae. It is known from a single specimen, BMNH R8646, found from the Anisian-age Manda Formation of Tanzania. When first described by Friedrich von Huene in 1939, Parringtonia was assigned to the obsolete group Pseudosuchia. In the 1970s, Parringtonia was referred to the family Erpetosuchidae due to similarities between the scapulae of it and the better known Erpetosuchus from Scotland and the United States. In both genera, the scapula is very thin and forward-curving. Like Erpetosuchus, Parringtonia possesses only five maxillary teeth, although there may have been more as only the anterior portion of the maxilla is preserved in BMNH R8646. Parringtonia and Erpetosuchus are similar in size, and the osteoderms of both genera are similar in shape and sculpture.
