High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Henderson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. It was formed in 1799. As the latest census data update of 2010, the population was counted 46,250. The county seat is the City of Henderson. The county was named for Colonel Richard Henderson who originally purchased 17,000,000 acres (69,000 km2) of land from the Cherokee Indians, only to have the purchase voided by the Virginia legislature. Then, in 1778, the Richard Henderson Company was granted 200,000 acres (810 km2) in recognition of the $50,000 paid by the company to the Cherokee Indians in the Treaty of Watauga. Land in that grant is included in the present boundary of Henderson County.
