In a handwritten letter this month, Van Buren High School Principal Becky Guthrie asked 20 high school employees to become prayer warriors with her to resolve the crises at the school. The school underwent a major development project that was finished in 2009. The project added a number of new classrooms, a new basketball facility (Clair Bates Arena), and a new performing arts center. The school's mascot is the Pointer (hunting dog), and its school colors are kelly green and white. It currently competes in the 7-A/6-A conference of the Arkansas Athletics Association, offering many competitive sports, including cross country football, basketball, baseball, track, softball, volleyball, tennis, golf, soccer, marching band, cheer, and dance.
