It is home to Los Angeles Valley College, Ulysses S. Grant High School, and The Great Wall of Los Angeles, a half mile-long mural painted on one of the concrete sides of the Tujunga Wash portraying the history of California from the perspective of women and people of color. Until 1998, the area was simply considered a part of Van Nuys, with the eastern section being a part of North Hollywood. Valley Glen is part of the City of Los Angeles and the Greater Valley Glen Council (GVGC) is the official arm of Los Angeles City for the Valley Glen Community.
