The photographer, writer and filmmaker Raymond Depardon was brought up on a farm near Villefranche-sur-Saone, just north of Lyon. His family naturally assumed that, like generations before him, he would become a farmer and spend his life in and around the Garet Farm, but the young boy had other ideas. After a job in a Villefranche photographic shop and many adventures, the most renowned of them far away in Chad and Vietnam, he became a member of Magnum and probably the most recognized photographic name in France after Henri Cartier-Bresson.
