Cry Out for Joy, You Lower Parts of the Earth is published on the occasion of Karin van Dam's 2005 exhibition, Van Doesburg/Van Dam , at the Central Museum in Utrecht. At the center of this show is Van Dam's critically acclaimed work, Trading Cities (on which the artist worked for nine years). Trading Cities is a collection of assemblages that creates the impression an imaginary city. Van Dam placed this work next to gouaches and pencil drawings of Dutch avant-garde artist, Theo van Doesberg in order to highlight the link between her work and his in the way they both explore space, and create layers from complex collages.
