Spanish-born, New York-based painter Manolo Valdes (born 1942) makes multiple extrapolations of classic images of art history. For his Matador Artist's Portfolio, Valdes dismantles and reconstructs Velazquez's portrait of the Infanta Maria Theresa in six interpretations that vary in idiom from the Cubistic to the abstract.
