Manuel played club soccer for Yorktown Spirit, and was briefly a member of the youth academy at famed French club Olympique de Marseille, before playing four years of college soccer at Brown University. He had previously attended the all boys preparatory institution the Browning School located in New York City. He was captain of the school's soccer team. During his college years Manuel also played with the Westchester Flames and the Bradenton Academics in the USL Premier Development League.
