English summary: In honor of this year's 200th anniversary of the death of Philipp Otto Runge (1777-1810), the Hamburger Kunsthalle and the Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung in Munich are showing a large exhibition dedicated to him. This accompanying catalog provides a comprehensive overview of the complete works of the artist and includes much current research. The works of Philipp Otto Runge were of central importance for the development of German Romanticism. Because Runge sought a renewal of art through his work, he served as a role model to many.
