Eroticism, depicted in a bewildering variety of manifestations, is the leitmotif that unites the vast oeuvre of sculptures and drawings created by Auguste Rodin, arguably the greatest sculptor of the late nineteenth century. Female sexuality appears in his work as both a threat and a challenge, as well as being the source of all creative inspiration and passion. Selected sculptures have been re-photographed specially for this book and are supplemented by color illustrations of some of the artist's late drawings. In word and image, "Rodin: Eros and Creativity" deepens our understanding of the sculptor genius who exerted a strong influence both on his contemporaries and on artists throughout the twentieth century.
