This is the story of an ordinary woman. This is my story. After being married to the love of my life for thirty-three years, I watched as my husband fought for his life for twenty-one days and lost. My story didn't end with his passing, but continues with my learning to live alone while constantly being hammered by reminders of my loss. During my journey into widowhood, realization of the finality of death struck me at the most inappropriate of times, brought on by familiar sights, songs, or standing in line at the market. Each morning at dawn, I drew forth memories of when we first met, our secret love affair, my divorce and the deaths of both his wife and my mother. Each month was a rollercoaster ride driven by my emotions seeking answers. What purpose did I serve? What value are the so-called golden years? Would I ever find happiness?
